In class, we are starting to learn about Comparing Fractions. We will be using different strategies but one of the strategies we will start with will be using a number line and a benchmark of 1/2. Please see the video below that we will be watching in class this week to help your child at home.
Comparing Fractions on a number with a benchmark of 1/2 At the end of this week, we will be learning about Factors and Multiples. I have included a video on Factors using Rainbow Factor Lines that we will be learning how to create to learn factors.
Rainbow Factor Lines This is a video that talks about bar models that we are learning in class at the beginning of the week.
Bar Models/Bar Diagrams Video We have started learning about the Standard Algorithm for Division on Monday of this week. I have included two videos below that go over how to divide with a 1 digit divisor up to a 3 digit dividend.
1 digit by 2 digit Division Using Standard Algorithm Video 1 Digit by 3 digit Division Using Standard Algorithm Video These two videos are ones that we watched in class so students should be familiar with them as well. This is a video of partial quotients division. We have been working on this in class and this will give more clarification. I also sent home a "Math Minute" Sheet that gives a step by step equation. Here is the link to the video:
Partial Quotients Division Video This video below shows the area model by multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers. The same concept will be applied as we are multiplying 3 digit by 1 digit and 4 digit by 1 digit numbers.

The video above explains the bar model that is being done in class this week for addition and subtraction multi-step word problems. Please refer to this video as you help your child at home. Rounding Numbers to a specified place on a number line Video
The video above was shown in class today. Students were able to practice drawing number lines and finding benchmark numbers for a given number. The notes from the lesson today will be in your child's math interactive notebook. This week we are learning about comparing and ordering numbers. We have learned two strategies to compare numbers which are using a place value chart and a number line. The video that I have added below helps you to use the strategy of using a place value chart to compare numbers.
