Hey everyone. I wanted to update you on what is going on in the classroom for the next few weeks.
In Reading, we are working on how to determine what is a firsthand and secondhand account of an event in nonfiction. We are working at looking at different events in history to determine whether they are firsthand accounts (from someone who was actually there) and secondhand account (an account from an outside source and someone who was not there). We will be working on this for the next week independently. We will then go on to look at point of view in fictional text. Also, our book reports are due March 20th.
In Writing, we are wrapping up writing about our opinion pieces. We will be done with these pieces in the next 2 weeks. We will then move on to working on prompt writing to get us ready for the end of the year test. We won't be spending too much time on this but just enough to make sure we are ready. We will then be moving on to get ready for our Wax Museum by working on Biographies.
In Math, we are learning what mixed numbers and improper fractions are. Now, we are learning how to add and subtract mixed numbers by changing them into improper fractions and drawing area models. We have learned a lot about Fractions thus far. We will have a test on everything that we have learned about Fractions thus far on Thursday. Tomorrow, we will be reviewing all of the concepts that will be on the test and will be able to study from their interactive notebook.
In Social Studies, we have ended learning about the Revolutionary War. Now, we are starting to learn about how our government was formed. Our Unit on Government will be very short. We will be having a test on Government next Friday. A study guide will be provided next week.
I will be posting a Science Blog tomorrow afternoon. I will update you on what is going on in Science.
Important Dates:
3/12: Fractions Test
3/20: Government Test
3/20: Book Reports Due (My ELA class)
Let me know if you have any questions.
Ms. Tomlinson
