Hey everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend with your families! I wanted to give you an update of what is going on in our classroom and how I've updated my website.
In Reading, we are continuing to build comprehension in nonfiction text in many different ways. We are taking the next two days to focus on Martin Luther King and other biographies to find themes in nonfiction text. In the weeks to come, we will to continue to use our inference skills to tackle to meaning of language, to crack open text features, and wrap our minds around BIG IDEAS(Theme). Students are doing a great job. Please continue to make sure they are reading every night and that you are signing their reading log! Our Book Report due date has changed. I changed this to February 9th. I wanted to give students an extra weekend to get it done after reading the Enormous Egg!! Also, there is NO SPELLING this week. We will start back next week!
In Writing, we are continuing to become essayists. Students already have their thesis statements and reasons why their opinion is true. Over the next week, we will be compiling mini stories as evidence to support our reasons. These pieces are not quite done, but we are well on our way!!
In Social Studies, we are starting to talk about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War. We will spend the rest of the week talking about the French and Indian War as well as the Stamp Act, Quartering Acts. Intolerable Acts, etc. Students will be taking notes in their interactive notebook. Please make sure that you are seeing this every night. They should be able to tell you what they learned that day! Also, I gave students vocabulary for Chapter 8, Lesson 1. Students will have a quiz on Friday of this week. I have also uploaded the Vocabulary Words to the Social Studies section on my website.
In Math , students are currently learning about patterns. Next week, we are starting our unit on Fractions. We will start out talking about Vocabulary they need to know and Equivalent Fractions. On my Math Blog I will start posting videos for what we learn in class starting next week. Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you for continuing to read the Enormous Egg at home with your family! It has been so exciting to talk about it in class and also to see the pictures coming in. Thank you for sending those in and keep them coming!!
Important Dates:
1/23: Chapter 8, Lesson 1 Vocabulary Quiz in S.S.; Possible Week 13 USA Weekly Quiz
