Hey everyone,
As always, I just wanted to give an update on what is going on in the classroom by subject area. Also, our field trip is coming up very soon! It is going to be NEXT Tuesday. If your child has not turned in the permission form, please do so by Monday of next week. I think it is going to be so much fun for the students to see this play on Jackie Robinson! :)
In Math, we are having a TEST on Friday of this week on Fraction Equivalence and Comparing Fractions. I have shared the review that we went over in class today on Google docs. The answers were provided to students and written down in their math interactive notebook. This is very important that they study. We will be moving on to adding and subtracting fractions but this will not be on our test on Friday.
In Reading, we are continuing to build comprehension skills through nonfiction texts while trying to find the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details or important details. Students have been reading nonfiction texts about certain topics that they already have some background knowledge on such as Paul Revere and his midnight ride. Students have had a lot of thoughtful inferences, thoughts, and questions as they think through what the main idea might be for the texts we are reading. Also, student book reports are due March 20th. This will be right before spring break.
In Writing, we are still continuing to publish our opinion pieces. These pieces should be done in the next two weeks. I'm excited for students to share their persuasive pieces. I know a lot of the parents will really love to read these!
In Social Studies, our Revolutionary War Unit is coming to a close. We are having our Revolutionary War Test on Thursday of this week. Students will be bringing home a study guide tonight to complete for homework. We will be going over this in class tomorrow as well. Make sure that students are studying this study guide the next two nights!
Important Dates:
2/26: Revolutionary War Test
2/27: Math Test: Comparing Fractions and Equivalent Fractions
3/3: Children's Theater Field Trip: Jackie and Me
3/20: ELA Book Reports are due
Let me know if you have any questions!
Ms. Tomlinson
