Hey Everyone! I hope you all have had a great few weeks! This is an update about what is going on in the classroom..
In Reading, we are hard at work making inferences using clues from the text and determining themes from our inferences. At the end of this week, we will be looking at determining important information in nonfiction text. We will continue to build comprehension through learning how to navigate nonfiction. Some of the ways you can help your child at home, is to sit by your child and ask important questions about the text. If you have any questions on how to support your reader at home, please don't hesitate to ask. Again, please make sure that you are signing your child's reading log because this shows me they have read. It is so important for students to read at home because this continues to support your child becoming a better reader. Book reports were due today, February 9th. Every day that their book report is late, 10 points will be deducted. We will have another book report due next month and this will be explained later this week. Spelling was also given last week and their test will be this Friday. Make sure they are completing their homework this week and studying for their test.
In Writing, your child is continuing to create a persuasive essay. Students have been doing a great job with these. I hope to have students done with these in the next few weeks. They have been working hard creating reasons to support their thesis statements as well as evidence to support their reasons. Although this is hard work, I can't believe how thoughtful their work has become. I'm very proud of their work so far. I hope for you to see these thoughtful pieces soon!
In Math, we are diving into fractions. We have been working on Equivalent Fractions by looking at how models can help us determine Equivalent Fractions. We will start comparing fractions this week by creating models and number lines to help us. Be on the lookout for emails regarding videos that will help YOU help your child at home with these strategies.
In Social Studies, we will be having a Chapter 8 Test tomorrow. This Chapter 8 test covers events leading up to the Revolutionary War and students have a study guide that has all of the information that will be on the test. Make sure your child is studying for this tonight. We have covered all of the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and our goal for the next few weeks will be to focus on the important people and battles during this war. Students will have their social studies interactive notebook with notes that they need to be studying every night.
As always, we have been busy in the classroom. Let me know what I can do to help you help your child!
