Hey everyone!
I can't believe that it is almost October! It doesn't feel like we have been in school for a month already! We have been busy in the classroom with many different things. It's been exciting to get to know your child even better these last few weeks. I can honestly say that you have very bright children!!
As readers, we have been visualizing in different books that we read. We have been visualizing using our Schema, which is how we picture ideas in our minds. They are using their "schema folder" to help them visualize. Students have been doing a great job with this. Reading Logs should still be coming home. Please make sure you are still signing these and sending these back to school so I know that they have read the night before.
As writers, we are still creating our realistic fiction stories, developing our characters in our stories. Your child has done a great job with adding details for their fiction stories by adding action and dialogue. I can't wait for you all to see their final pieces!!
As Historians, we have been making our way through all Native American Regions. Students will be having a test in Social Studies THIS THURSDAY on all Native American regions. We are studying in class and students will be bringing home a study guide.
As mathematicians, we are studying how to use the bar model to add and subtract whole numbers. Please refer to my math blog for a video that references this concept. We will be starting multiplication very soon! It's essential that students know how to add and subtract before this unit as it will be used in a lot of the strategies we teach!
Upcoming quizzes, tests, or projects:
Thursday 10/2- Native Americans Test
Monday 10/6- Totem Pole Projects are due (Presentations will be this day. I can't wait to see your child's creativity as they create these!)
Important Dates:
Thursday 10/2- Reading MAP Testing at 9:15
Wednesday 10/8- Math MAP Testing at 8:15
Again, if you have any questions, please email me :)
Ms. Tomlinson
