Hey everyone!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the time that I have been able to meet with you this week at conferences! I have met with some of you again and some of you for the first time. I just want to take the time to say, "Thank you," for all you do every single day for your child. Thank you for partnering with me to make sure your child is successful this year in 4th grade. I feel so blessed to be able to have such a great class of students as well as parents! Thank you for taking the time to meet with me.
I can't believe it is almost Halloween. This Friday, we will be having a Halloween snack for your child to enjoy to celebrate!
This week is also Red Ribbon Week. Every day this week we will be wearing different items below to say "NO to Drugs!"
In Math, we are learning 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. We are starting to use the area model to multiply and will be learning the standard algorithm later on this week. I will post videos for you on the Math Blog as the week progresses. Please make sure you are checking your child's math interactive notebook daily for new notes and strategies that we learn in class! This is important that they are taking this home every day.
In Social Studies, we are continuing our unit on the Explorers. We will be ending that unit at the end of this week. I have changed the Explorer Test date to Monday, November 3. This is to give students another weekend to study the study guide that was given today. Please make sure to look in their Social Studies interactive notebook for review information that was pasted in today.
In Writing, we are going to be publishing our Realistic Fiction stories this week. I will be sending these home with them as soon as I get them graded. I like for parents to read over these with their child and give any suggestions for the future they may have. It is great for them to show their writing to others and get feedback! We are excited for our first piece to be completed!!
In Reading, we are continuing to go over skills such as Inference, looking at Character Traits of the Characters in our books, and doing a lot of close reading of the text using the book entitled, The Tiger Rising. The discussions students are having in class are incredible! I am so excited to hear their thinking progress over the course of the school year already. They are very deep thinkers!!
Important dates coming up:
10/31-Possible Math Quiz on 2 digit by 2 digit Multiplication
10/31-Timed Quiz
10/31-Realistic Fiction Piece Published
11/3- Social Studies Test on Explorers
